The EES is a digitalization of the immigration passport control process, automating the registration of travellers entering and leaving the Schengen Area.
The system will automatically register key information each time you enter or leave the 29 European countries in the Schengen Area within a 90-day period. This includes:
- Your travel document details (e.g., passport)
- Dates of your entry and exit
- Biometric data such as fingerprints and a photograph
This new system will help border officials process travellers more efficiently, reduce waiting times, and enhance security by accurately tracking entries and exits - helping prevent overstays and irregular migration.
During this transition period, some countries may continue to use traditional passport stamping until full implementation is completed by 9 April 2026.
Please be assured that your personal data will be protected under strict EU privacy regulations.
